It combines genetic, chemical, ecological and agronomic control strategies for smarter management of plant and animal health and is a world leader in field phenotyping.

Currently under development is a portfolio of crop protection products based on existing active ingredients in combination with patented technology that overcomes pest and weed resistance.
Our First Products
Our patented Pangaea technology overcomes resistance using a primer and a time-delayed agrochemical which blocks the natural detoxification system of pests.
This incorporates the discovery of temporal synergism (patented in 2005), whereby to be most effective, primers need to have completely inhibited or neutralised a pest’s defensive enzymes before any pesticides are applied. Application of the primer leaves the pest in a hypersensitive state so that concentrations of appropriate pesticides will usually kill even very resistant pests. It does this by deactivating the metabolic pathway (cytochrome P-450) in insects, weeds and fungi which cause the breakdown of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. This is achieved through the precision application of piperonyl butoxide (PBO) and an agrochemical separated by a time delay.

BOOSTER™
Booster™ ais a newly optimised and patented formulation of piperonyl butoxide (PBO) to effect temporal synergism in insects and weeds.
Temporal synergism is a novel technique in which contact with Piperonyl butoxide (PBO), first developed in 1947 from safrole naturally occurring in trees, takes place some hours before the exposure to the active pesticide, patented as Tardis Technology.
The optimised formulation has improved stability and uptake, ensured chemical compatibility and demonstrated superior efficacy.
Insecticide resistance in Oil Seed Rape
Damage in OSR by insect pests results in a 15% yield loss on a European scale and in some cases up to 70%.
What is it
Pangaea Booster is a crop protection additive that has been designed specifically to tackle insecticide resistant pests, including strains of pollen beetle (Meligethes aeneus) that infest oilseed rape.
How it is applied
Pangaea Booster is a tank-mix product to be used in combination with approved formulations of insecticides, including lambda-cyhalothrin and alpha-cypermethrin.
How it works
Pangaea Booster does not have pesticidal effect itself but overcomes resistance to pyrethroids by temporarily blocking the detoxification mechanisms of the target pest. Pangaea Booster is effective against pollen beetle strains showing metabolic resistance mechanisms.
How it was developed and tested
Pangaea Booster is based on a revolutionary patented technology developed by Rothamsted Research in collaboration with other world’s leading research centres. Extensive field trials have been carried out over the last five years across Europe in high-pressure situations under different environmental conditions. Trials were run by academic institutions, commercial field centres and independent consultants.
